Bosnia and Herzegovina urged to establish national CERT after Igman cyber breach
The Center for Security Studies warned that the cyber‑fraud incident at the state‑owned company Igman in Konjic reveals weak digital resilience across Bosnian institutions and businesses. The breach, involving a Business Email Compromise attack, follows earlier cyber intrusions such as the September 2022 attack on the Parliamentary Assembly.
CSS calls for an urgent national cyber‑security strategy, the creation of a functional Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), a clear legal framework, and stronger protection of critical infrastructure. It also urges political leaders to treat cyber‑security as a top‑priority state security issue, increase international cooperation, and boost public awareness and education programs.
The Federal Police’s cyber‑crime unit has already warned of a surge in online fraud, highlighting the need for coordinated response mechanisms that are currently lacking due to insufficient staffing and political will.
