Bosnia and Herzegovina vehicle import trends and road safety updates

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the import of used vehicles continues to grow, with the used car market being ten times larger than the new vehicle market. Data from the Indirect Taxation Administration shows that in 2025, 95,421 passenger motor vehicles were imported, including 86,129 used and 9,292 new vehicles. While used vehicle imports have seen a steady annual increase of approximately 10 percent, there is a notable rise in the import of electric and hybrid vehicles. In the first nine months of 2026, electric vehicle imports more than doubled compared to the same period in 2025.

Average prices for used cars in the country range between 25,000 and 30,000 KM, with high demand for city crossovers such as the Renault Captur and Dacia Duster. Premium models from brands like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes also remain popular due to lower prices for older models with higher mileage.

Regarding road safety and regulation, authorities in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) are launching joint inspections of all technical inspection stations. These controls aim to ensure legal operations, proper staffing, and the use of calibrated equipment, with potential fines for legal entities reaching up to 15,000 KM. Additionally, the Auto-moto Association of Republika Srpska has reported 1,346 cases of reckless driving since May 2026, resulting in the seizure of 13 vehicles under new traffic safety laws.
