Bosnia and Herzegovina wealth estimates lack official registry

Reports regarding the number of millionaires in Bosnia and Herzegovina, specifically in towns like Živinice and Kakanj, are based on estimates rather than official data. Bosnia and Herzegovina lacks a formal registry of millionaires, an institution to measure net wealth, or a wealth tax to track such assets.

Samir Vildić, Chairman of the Board of the Entrepreneurs Foundation in BiH, suggested that Živinice has more than 150 millionaires per capita, surpassing Berlin and rivaling Cologne. He noted that Kakanj has over 40 millionaires. Vildić stated his intention was to highlight the significant capital available for investment in the country to encourage young people.

The figures are derived from proxy data: in Živinice, 110 companies had revenues exceeding one million KM in 2022, increasing to 117 in 2023. However, critics note that company revenue does not equate to personal wealth, and the methodology for these specific millionaire counts has not been officially published.
