Bosnia and Herzegovina’s EU bid enjoys 74% public support as roaming fees set to be scrapped

A recent public‑opinion poll commissioned by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Directorate for European Integration found that 74.4 % of respondents support the country’s accession to the European Union, up 4.5 percentage points from the previous year. EU delegation head Luigi Soreca said the results send a “strong message” to political actors to listen to the public and act, noting that majorities across the Federation, Republika Srpska and Brčko District back EU membership.

At the same time, the government’s communications minister Edin Forto announced that negotiations with the European Commission aim to bring the EU’s “Roam‑Like‑At‑Home” regime to Bosnia and Herzegovina. He described the measure as “one of the most tangible benefits of European integration for our citizens,” stressing that eliminating roaming charges would lower costs for travellers, students and businesses. Forto also said a draft law on electronic communications is under public consultation to align the country’s legislation with EU directives, a prerequisite for the roaming agreement.
