Bosnia and Herzegovina’s industrial sector records growth and government rescue efforts
Zeničko‑dobojski canton (ZDK) reported a 5 % rise in industrial production last year, positioning it as the leading contributor to Bosnia’s economy. Minister of Economy Samir Šibonjić highlighted ongoing support for domestic companies, development of industrial zones, and new investment incentives. He announced the return of the International Trade Fair ZEPS, scheduled for 2‑5 September, aiming to showcase local producers and attract new markets.
Federal Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Vedran Lakić affirmed the Federation’s commitment to fully take over Željezara Zenica, rejecting proposals to lease the plant for a nominal fee. He said the government will pursue all legal avenues, including an appeal to the Cantonal Court, to avoid bankruptcy that could affect up to 10,000 families and numerous suppliers. Lakić warned that a collapse would strike the broader Bosnian economy.
