Bosnia and Kosovo report tragic deaths and war-era remains
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the bodies of five hikers from Zenica who died on Mount Elbrus have arrived in the country. The deceased have been identified as Alma Okanović, Denis Okanović, Dr. Meliha Čaušević, Nermin Talam, and Almir Krivdić. A commemoration is scheduled for August 18, 2026, at the Bosnian National Theatre in Zenica, followed by a funeral service at the Čaršijska Mosque and burial at the Prašnica City Cemetery.
Separately, in Kosovo, police discovered the remains of three individuals in a mass grave located in Mala Kaludra, within the Zubin Potok municipality. Forensic experts have confirmed the remains are of human origin. Authorities suspect the remains belong to victims of the 1999 war in Kosovo. The discovery follows a nearly two-year investigation that has led to the arrest of several suspects for war crimes and the identification of other potential locations containing human remains.
