Bosnia-Herzegovina border crossings see massive traffic jams amid new EU entry system and heat

At the end of June, soaring temperatures marked the start of the summer holiday season and triggered a sharp rise in vehicle traffic toward the southern regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the border checkpoints with Croatia. Long queues were reported especially at the Izačić crossing, while significant congestion also appeared at Doljani–Metković, Osoje–Gornji Vinjani, Aržano and Nova Sela–Bijača. Other border points experienced shorter waits of ten to thirty minutes.

The delays are largely attributed to a mandatory passenger registration under a newly introduced EU exit‑and‑entry system. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution in the extreme heat, to take frequent breaks, and to drive responsibly to avoid accidents on the road to the coast.
