Bosnia medical chambers suspend licences for doctors from disputed Kallos and Goražde universities

The Medical Chamber of Republika Srpska halted the issuance of licences to doctors who graduated from the European University “Kallos” in Tuzla, citing ongoing legal disputes over the university’s accreditation. New licensing rules now require a World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) accredited programme. Four pending applications from Kallos graduates remain on hold. The chamber also announced stricter rules for visiting physicians, requiring all hospitals in RS to register them and mandating that doctors at the University Clinical Center hold a chamber licence.

In a related ruling, the Cantonal Court in Tuzla rejected a lawsuit by Dr. Asja Begović, upholding the decision of the Tuzla Canton Medical Chamber to deny her licence renewal. Begović, a graduate of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the International University in Goražde – another institution under scrutiny – had previously received a licence that was later revoked. The court emphasized that only accredited higher‑education institutions may award recognised medical degrees, reinforcing the broader crackdown on unaccredited medical schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
