Bosnia municipal utility heads clash over dismissals in Mostar and Sarajevo
In Mostar, Jadranka Senikić, director of the municipal utility, explained at a city council meeting why 22 workers received extraordinary dismissals. She said the disciplinary procedure stemmed from an executed order, not a rejected one, and began before a technical‑technological incident was declared. Nineteen workers did not sign a statement acknowledging the decision, so they missed the hearing where they could have defended themselves. Senikić also criticised past managers for alleged misuse of official vehicles and missing infrastructure, noting the issue is heightened in an election year, with Mayor Almin Kordić warning of growing political pressure.
In Sarajevo, former general director Nedeljko Elek filed a lawsuit in the Basic Court in Sokolo to overturn his removal from Sarajevo‑Gas. The court granted a temporary injunction but reaffirmed that the company’s board may dismiss a director at any time without cause under the Republika Srpska Companies Law. Elek argued both procedural and substantive violations, claiming the decisions were illegal and that his management had been successful. He also disputed the appointment of Igor Đokanović as acting director, stating the dismissals threaten the company’s business interests.
