Bosnia road works and marathon cause widespread traffic delays

The Bosnia and Herzegovina road authority reports extensive maintenance on the A‑1 highway, including the Nemila‑Vranduk sub‑section, Lašva‑Kakanj (6 km), Sarajevo West‑Lepenica and Bijača‑Počitelj (Herzegovina bridge). These works have closed the affected lanes and redirected traffic to the M‑17, M‑5, and alternative local routes.

Weight limits of 3.5 tonnes remain in place on the Dobro Polje‑Miljevina, Tuzla‑Bijeljina and Jablanica‑Blidinje corridors, with heavier vehicles still barred. Additional temporary closures affect regional roads R‑413 (Turbe‑Vitovlje) and R‑441 (Vitez‑Vjetrenice), with detours via Ovčareva, Galice and the Lašvanska loop.

Border crossing queues for passenger vehicles are limited to 30 minutes, though longer waits may occur due to the EU Entry/Exit System. The Brčko crossing allows vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, while Karakaj opened to all categories on 2 December 2025 and Šepak remains closed to freight.

In conjunction with the Supermarathon and bicycle marathon Bihać‑Srebrenica (Jajce‑Donji Vakuf‑Travnik‑Sarajevo), drivers are urged to proceed with maximum caution and follow police instructions. Restrictions on transporting explosives are in effect on 9‑11 July around the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, and heavy‑duty vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are prohibited on certain routes from Sarajevo, Tuzla and Zvornik toward the Potočari area.
