Bosnia staff honored, Algeria coach dismissed after World Cup 2026
Bosnia and Herzegovina football director Emir Spahić posted an emotional thank‑you to the team’s medical, logistical and support staff who worked behind the scenes during the nation’s historic debut at the 2026 World Cup in the United States and Canada. He wrote, “While all eyes were on the pitch, there was a group working tirelessly out of the public eye,” praising doctors, physiotherapists, economists, ticketing managers and others for enabling the players to focus on the game.
In Algeria, the football federation announced plans to terminate the contract of head coach Vladimir Petković after the team’s early exit from the same tournament. The federation claims the Croatian‑born coach owes the association roughly €5 million in unpaid wages and bonuses, and has refused a settlement, prompting calls for his dismissal and possible legal action.
Both stories highlight the differing post‑World Cup fallout for national teams: one celebrating unseen contributors, the other embroiled in a contractual dispute.
