Bosnian citizen Selver Hrustić held in Ukrainian POW camp

Selver Hrustić, a 35-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been held in a prisoner-of-war camp near Lviv for nine months after fighting for the Russian military in Ukraine. Hrustić reportedly signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense in September 2025.

While Bosnian authorities have announced intentions to seek his extradition to face charges for joining a foreign military, an official request has not yet been submitted. Hrustić’s father, Fahrudin Hrustić, stated that his son wishes to return to Bosnia and Herzegovina to face the domestic judicial system. According to Ukrainian intelligence sources, Hrustić is currently the only prisoner of war from the Western Balkans known to have fought within the Russian forces.
