Bosnian students win five medals at International Greenwich Olympiad in London

Students from Bosnia and Herzegovina earned five medals at the International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO) held in London from 14 – 20 June. Esma Sinanović and Nejla Kusturica of Richmond Park International Secondary School in Tuzla captured gold for the project “rePETra”, which examined the effect of coatings and UV blockers on UV and visible light transmission. Their teammate Esma Zilić secured a silver medal for the short film “A Sweet Trap”, warning about excessive sugar consumption. Isra Hasanović won bronze in the Short Film category, while Ema Fazlić and Lejla Mehurić of the Mustafa Kamarić Gymnasium in Gračanica earned silver in the Energy category with “Intellistep”, a system that combines solar, wind, rain and thermal energy to charge batteries. Ahmed Gušo (Hasib Hadžić) from Goražde took bronze in Environment Science for “Nautilus”.

The Bosnian delegation was also honored with a reception at Westminster Palace, hosted by Baroness Arminka Helić, and welcomed by the Bosnian embassy’s first secretary, Samra Koričić Mujkić. The event highlighted the country's growing talent pool in science, technology and innovation on a global stage.
