Bosnian worker seriously injured by rockfall in Austria

A 49-year-old forestry worker from Bosnia and Herzegovina was seriously injured in a workplace accident in St. Margarethen bei Knittelfeld, Austria. The incident occurred around 13:45 when a massive rock broke loose above the man's work area, striking him before tumbling down a steep slope.

The worker was pinned by part of the rock on difficult, inaccessible terrain. Two colleagues managed to free him and immediately called for emergency services. The rescue operation involved mountain rescuers and volunteer firefighters from Glein and St. Margarethen bei Knittelfeld.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was evacuated by the Christophorus 17 rescue helicopter to the UKH Graz trauma hospital for emergency surgery and treatment. Austrian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the rockfall at the forestry site.
