Bosnia signs 950,000 KM contracts for tourism and waste projects

Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Nasiha Pozder visited Tuzla Canton and signed contracts totaling 950,000 BAM to boost tourism and improve waste management. The agreements include a 75,000 BAM deal with Tuzla International Airport director Dževad Haličević to support new airline routes, a 500,000 BAM co‑financing for the removal of hazardous waste from the former HAK industrial site, a 200,000 BAM contract with Gradačac mayor Hajrudin Mehanović to rehabilitate the Višnjik municipal landfill, and a 175,000 BAM agreement for the third phase of the Gračanica landfill closure. Pozder said the development of air transport “directly contributes to the development of tourism” and highlighted the projects as the most significant environmental initiatives in the region.

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also adopted a Federal Waste Management Plan for 2026‑2030, aiming to shift from a linear to a circular waste model, strengthen institutional cooperation and align with EU standards.

In Croatia, the municipality of Jelenje received EU‑funded support of 25,000 EUR to restore traditional mountain huts (kalići) and upgrade the Obruč‑Hahlić hiking‑tourism trail. The project, part of the EU Regional Development and Mountain‑Area Support Programme, seeks to preserve natural and cultural heritage and improve conditions for hikers and tourists.

These coordinated investments target tourism growth, environmental protection and sustainable regional development in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.
