Bosque de Bolognia: Protests erupt over land encroachment

Citizens and social organizations in La Paz are protesting against the encroachment of land grabbers in the Bosque de Bolognia Municipal Protected Area. Environmentalists report that earth-moving activities are destroying one of the southern zone’s last green lungs, despite administrative sanctions and stay orders that have been in place since 2020.

Konka Jáuregui of the Coordinadora en Defensa de la Madre Tierra (CODMA) warned that there is active advertising aimed at attracting investment for real estate development in the sector, even though regulations mandate the area's conservation. Although Mayor César Dockweiler recently ordered the sealing of machinery to halt works, the threat of further destruction and terracing remains. Experts also warn of significant geological risks, noting the area is unsuitable for construction and could trigger landslides.
