Boston Bruins captaincy potentially revealed by Tottenham Hotspur post

The Boston Bruins may have inadvertently revealed their next captain following a social media post by English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. In a post that was quickly deleted, Tottenham highlighted Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons’ visit to Boston training facilities, stating that Simons “exchanged jerseys with captain David Pastrnak.”

The Bruins have not yet officially named a new captain following the departure of Brad Marchand, though General Manager Don Sweeney confirmed a selection would be made before the season opener on September 29. While Pastrnak is a leading candidate, some fans noted that the jersey shown in the Tottenham post did not feature the captain’s “C,” leading to debate over whether the post was a genuine leak or a mistake.

Pastrnak, a Czech winger, and defenseman Charlie McAvoy are considered the primary frontrunners for the role. The team has operated without a designated captain since March 2025.
