Boston Celtics hold training camp in Charleston amid record rainfall
The Boston Celtics are conducting their training camp at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. While on-court practices at McAllister Field House have proceeded according to plan, historic rainfall in the region has impacted the team’s extracurricular activities. Charleston recorded 3.64 inches of rain on Sunday, breaking a 133-year-old single-day rainfall record.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla has used the weather and the change of environment to emphasize themes of togetherness and resilience. Mazzulla noted that while the team is currently cohesive, true character is tested when adversity hits during the season. He also addressed player availability, stating that the expectation for players to play all 82 games is not necessarily a realistic standard, focusing instead on competitive character and managing player health.
Despite the heavy rain and flash-flood warnings, the team continues its three-day stint in South Carolina, focusing on communication and building chemistry before returning to Boston.
