Boston Celtics lose season opener to Detroit Pistons
The Boston Celtics suffered a 121-113 defeat to the Detroit Pistons in their regular-season opener. Despite a 38-point performance from Paul George in his franchise debut, the Celtics surrendered a 22-point lead, allowing the Pistons to outscore them 72-41 in the final 20 minutes of the game.
Following the game, the NBA fined Paul George $2,000 for flopping after a review by the league office. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla emphasized the need for consistency and learning from the loss, noting that the team must focus on their process rather than the immediate result as they prepare for their upcoming home opener.
