Boston Celtics move to sign guard Payton Pritchard to extension

The Boston Celtics have already extended contracts for players such as Neemias Queta, Ron Harper Jr. and Jordan Walsh and are now focusing on guard Payton Pritchard, who will become extension‑eligible on Oct. 1. Pritchard is on a team‑friendly deal – two years left on a four‑year, $30 million contract – and the club wants to lock him up before his market value rises.

A Celtics front‑office executive told Spotrac that “Payton is an important player for us… we have to manage the cap and tax, but keeping Payton around is something we hope to do.” Pritchard finished last season with career‑high averages of 17 points, 5.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds, shooting 55.6 % on two‑point attempts and 37.7 % from three. Other officials note that salary‑cap and tax figures are rising, so the player could also weigh waiting for a higher payday, but the Celtics view a multi‑year deal as valuable for roster stability.

The team aims to add Pritchard’s offensive firepower to complement star Jayson Tatum as they prepare for another title run.
