Boston Celtics ownership group donates $200 million to Boston Children’s Hospital

The Boston Celtics ownership group, in association with the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, has announced a historic donation of more than $200 million to Boston Children’s Hospital. This contribution represents the largest gift in the institution’s history.

The funding is intended to support several key medical initiatives, including the construction of a new pediatric behavioral health campus in the Brighton neighborhood. This facility is expected to include a 116-bed psychiatric hospital, nearly doubling the hospital’s inpatient psychiatric capacity.

Additional resources will be directed toward research for childhood disease treatments, the establishment of a medical innovation fund, advanced training for pediatric nurses, and family programs focused on healthy lifestyles.

The total amount includes a $100 million gift from Celtics co-owner Rob Hale and his wife, Karen, which inspired the remaining owners to match the contribution. Kevin Churchwell, CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, stated that while the size of the gift is unprecedented, its true significance will be measured by the lives it saves.
