Boston Celtics retool roster following Jaylen Brown trade

The Boston Celtics are entering a new era following the trade of franchise star Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. In exchange for Brown, Boston acquired Paul George along with two first-round picks and two second-round picks.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens addressed the decision, noting that managing two max-usage players required difficult choices. Stevens emphasized that the organization must prioritize what is best for the team, even if the moves are unpopular with fans.

Under Coach Joe Mazzulla, the team is pivoting to a system centered around Jayson Tatum. Despite the roster overhaul, the Celtics have maintained high efficiency, including a league-leading turnover percentage of 0.112 during the 2025-26 season.
