Boston Celtics owner discusses Jaylen Brown trade decision

Boston Celtics owner Bill Chisholm revealed that he initially struggled with the decision to trade All-NBA star Jaylen Brown, admitting his personal passion as a fan made the move difficult. However, Chisholm ultimately deferred to the expertise of President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and the front office, expressing high confidence in their long-term vision for the franchise.

The trade, which sent Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George and multiple first-round picks, was driven largely by NBA financial regulations. Stevens noted that maintaining supermax contracts for both Brown and Jayson Tatum would have created significant challenges under the league’s restrictive second-apron salary cap rules, limiting the team’s ability to build depth and manage future draft assets.
