Boston College defeats Rutgers in annual Red Bandanna Game
Boston College defeated Rutgers 28-21 in its annual Red Bandanna Game held on September 11, 2026. The matchup served as a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and honored Welles Crowther, a former Boston College lacrosse player who died while rescuing people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
To honor Crowther, Boston College players wore uniforms featuring bandanna paisley patterns and ‘FOR WELLES’ instead of names. Rutgers also participated in the remembrance, wearing uniform pants with ‘Never Forget’ and helmets featuring stars and stripes to honor the 37 Rutgers alumni lost in the attacks.
On the field, Mason McKenzie led the Eagles with a 78-yard touchdown pass and a 10-yard scoring run. Despite a late comeback attempt by Rutgers, including two touchdown catches by KJ Duff, an interception by Anthony Palano secured the win for Boston College. During the game, BC linebacker Bodie Kahoun was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after an injury during a tackle.
