Boston Councilor Ed Flynn addresses block party concerns and rodent control

Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn is calling for the cancellation of the ‘Good Neighbor Cafe’ block party scheduled for October 24 on O Street in South Boston. The event, organized by a social media influencer, aims to transform the street into a pop-up cafe with free food and live music. Flynn expressed concerns to the Boston Police Commissioner regarding potential crowd sizes, parking issues, emergency vehicle access, and whether local residents were properly notified. He also questioned the use of city grant funding for an event promoted primarily to a large social media following.

Separately, Councilor Flynn is chairing a hearing to discuss the Boston Rodent Action Plan. While acknowledging some progress, Flynn argued the current plan fails to meet recommendations made by himself and urbanologist Dr. Bobby Corrigan. Flynn has advocated for the creation of a ‘rat czar’ similar to the position in New York City and has challenged findings from the Boston Public Health Commission regarding the severity of the city’s pest control situation, citing studies on the spread of leptospirosis.
