Boston to release 50th anniversary edition of debut album
The rock band Boston is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its self-titled debut album, originally released on August 25, 1976. To mark the milestone, Impex Records has announced an expanded reissue scheduled for the second quarter of 2027.
Supervised by guitarist and engineer Tom Scholz, the anniversary edition will feature previously unreleased "lost demos" recorded during the original sessions. These tracks, which Scholz painstakingly restored alongside guitarist Gary Pihl, were originally intended for labels before the band signed with Epic Records. The reissue aims to provide a look into Scholz’s basement studio and the creative process involving Scholz and late vocalist Brad Delp.
The upcoming release will also include an exclusive interview with Scholz and curated photography. The debut album remains a significant milestone in recording history, having sold over 17 million units in the United States and defined a unique sound through Scholz’s technical innovations and Delp’s vocals.
