Boston Dynamics appoints former Amazon AI leader Rohit Prasad as CEO

Boston Dynamics, a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, has appointed Rohit Prasad as its new Chief Executive Officer. Prasad is a prominent artificial intelligence expert who previously served as a Senior Vice President and Head Scientist at Amazon.

During his tenure at Amazon, Prasad led the early development of the Alexa AI platform and oversaw the development of the ‘Nova’ foundation model group. His experience includes managing large-scale AI organizations and working on projects related to Amazon’s Astro home robot. Prior to Amazon, he spent approximately 14 years at Raytheon BBN Technologies, working on machine learning applications for various research institutions.

The appointment aims to strengthen Boston Dynamics’ capabilities in ‘Physical AI’—technology that enables robots to perceive environments and make decisions to perform tasks in physical spaces. By combining the company’s advanced robotics hardware with Prasad’s expertise in generative, multimodal, and artificial general intelligence (AGI), Boston Dynamics intends to transition from a robotics hardware developer into an AI-driven robot platform provider for industrial applications.
