Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot showcases soccer skills in new Hyundai‑backed demo

Boston Dynamics released a video of its humanoid robot Atlas performing a series of soccer‑inspired moves – rapid footwork, dribbles, feints, jumps and even a mock celebration after a goal. The demonstration, timed with the opening of the FIFA World Cup, highlights the robot’s dynamic balance, whole‑body coordination and the newly introduced electric actuation system that replaces the older hydraulic platform.

The footage is part of Hyundai Motor Group’s visibility campaign around the tournament. Hyundai, which owns Boston Dynamics, plans to deploy up to 25,000 Atlas units in its factories, with an initial rollout expected at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Georgia by 2028. The video serves both to showcase current capabilities and to build confidence for the larger future fleet.
