Boston Dynamics opens RMAC training center for Atlas robots

Boston Dynamics has officially opened the Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC) at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, USA. The facility serves as a specialized testbed where the Atlas humanoid robot can learn essential manufacturing tasks, such as logistics preparation and part sequencing, within an environment that mimics actual production lines.

Hyundai Motor Group plans to deploy 25,000 Atlas robots across its global Hyundai and Kia manufacturing sites in the coming years. To support this, the group intends to establish a new production facility in the United States capable of manufacturing 30,000 robots annually.

The RMAC, which began pilot operations in June, is slated to expand to approximately ten times its current size next year. Boston Dynamics aims to progressively increase the robot's capabilities, moving from logistics and sequencing to component assembly by 2030, and eventually to high-intensity tasks involving heavy lifting or repetitive motions.
