Boston mother arraigned for manslaughter following child's fentanyl death
Dayanna Familia, 35, has been arraigned in Dorchester following the August 17 death of her four-year-old daughter, Liyanna. Prosecutors allege the child died from ingesting fentanyl.
During the medical emergency, Familia reportedly told emergency responders that the child turned blue while drinking milk or after potentially encountering a roach trap. However, state attorneys claim she was aware the illness was caused by the drug. Body camera footage allegedly shows Familia attempting to conceal and destroy a white powder believed to be fentanyl, and a search warrant executed at her residence reportedly uncovered more of the substance.
Familia has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges. While her attorney requested $10,000 bail, the judge ordered her to be held without bail.
