Adley Rutschman nears debut with Boston Red Sox

Adley Rutschman is nearing his debut with the Boston Red Sox following his acquisition from the Baltimore Orioles in a major trade deadline deal. The three-time All-Star catcher has been sidelined since July 18 due to left wrist inflammation but has completed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester.

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy indicated that Rutschman is traveling with the team to Toronto and will undergo workouts at Rogers Centre. While an activation for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays is expected, the team plans to manage his workload carefully to avoid immediate strain on his legs and wrist.

Rutschman’s return presents a roster challenge for Boston, as the club must decide how to manage its catching depth involving Connor Wong and recent trade acquisition Jake Rogers. Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow defended the aggressive trade, stating the move was intended to position the team to compete for a World Series.
