Boston Red Sox consider future of Adley Rutschman
The Boston Red Sox are evaluating the future of catcher Adley Rutschman following his acquisition from the Baltimore Orioles. While Rutschman is set to become a free agent after the 2027 season, Red Sox decision-maker Craig Breslow expressed satisfaction with Rutschman’s leadership and integration into the team, noting he ‘immediately endeared himself to the pitching staff, to the coaching staff, to the clubhouse.’
Despite the organization's intent to keep conversations regarding a potential contract extension in-house, Rutschman’s performance since the trade has faced scrutiny. After dealing with wrist and elbow injuries, he recorded a .222 batting average with five home runs in 32 games for Boston. Some analysts have expressed concern regarding the high cost of the trade, which included several prospects, and the potential financial commitment required to retain him in free agency.
