Boston Red Sox duo Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu near historic home‑run milestone
Venezuelan sluggers Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu have driven the Boston Red Sox’s offense in July, combining for 11 homers, 21 extra‑base hits and 28 RBIs. Their back‑to‑back home runs in the eighth inning helped Boston beat the Oakland Athletics 5‑4 at Sutter Health Park.
Both players are on pace to join an exclusive club of Venezuelan teammates who each hit at least 20 home runs for the same MLB team in a single season. Contreras currently has 23 career four‑baggers this year, while Abreu has 16, putting them one of only nine duos in MLB history to reach the 20‑home‑run mark together for a single club. If Abreu reaches 20, the pair would become the first Venezuelan duo to achieve the feat since William Contreras and Jackson Chourio in 2024.
