Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet sidelined by shoulder and lat injuries

Boston Red Sox left‑hander Garrett Crochet confirmed that his ongoing absence is due to a combination of a left‑shoulder capsule inflammation and a low‑grade latissimus dorsi strain. He told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, “I was talking about my shoulder… When you’re dealing with the capsule, it’s a little finicky and it’s a very crucial component to overhead throwing,” adding that the lat setback “pushed things back” but was expected to be minor.

Crochet said he is asymptomatic now and can begin a throwing progression, but the rehab timeline has been pushed back. He does not expect to return before the All‑Star break and the earliest realistic return is projected for the end of July. His extended absence forces the Red Sox to rely on other starters such as Payton Tolle, Ranger Suarez and rookie prospects while they consider roster moves for the rotation.

The injuries highlight the challenges the Red Sox face in a season that has struggled to meet postseason expectations, and the team will continue to monitor Crochet’s progress before reintegrating him into the rotation.
