Boston Red Sox place Ceddanne Rafaela on injured list
The Boston Red Sox have placed All-Star center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela on the 10-day injured list due to a right quadriceps strain. The move was made retroactive to September 3.
Rafaela, who has been a significant offensive and defensive contributor this season, initially experienced tightness in his quadriceps during a game against the Seattle Mariners. To fill his roster spot, the Red Sox have recalled infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester.
While the injury is a setback during a critical postseason race, Rafaela may be eligible to return as early as September 13, depending on his recovery progress.
