Boston Red Sox sign catcher Riley Adams to minor league deal
The Boston Red Sox have signed catcher Riley Adams to a minor league contract, marking the organization’s first free agent move of the offseason. Adams, 30, brings 263 games of Major League experience to the team, having previously played for the Washington Nationals and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Adams is expected to serve as a depth piece for the Red Sox. The team currently has Connor Wong and Mickey Gasper on the 40-man roster, alongside former number one overall pick Adley Rutschman.
After being removed from the Nationals' 40-man roster in January, Adams spent the 2026 season in Triple-A, where he recorded a .273/.389/.506 slash line with 16 home runs in 82 games. His career MLB batting average stands at .211/.215, though he recorded a high bat speed in 2025, ranking fourth among major leaguers.
