Boston study shows plant-based food packages improve long-term health

A long-term study conducted in Boston suggests that plant-based food interventions can significantly improve metabolic and cardiovascular health. Researchers tracked 68 adults participating in a ‘food as medicine’ program, where participants received weekly food packages containing fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nut butters.

Over a period of approximately two and a half years, participants received an average of 97 food packages. The results indicated that for every 100 packages received, participants saw a 3.2-unit decrease in diastolic blood pressure, an average body weight loss of approximately 2.7 kilograms, and a one-point reduction in Body Mass Index (BMI). Dr. Lauren Fichtenauer, a lead researcher at Brigham and Women's Hospital, noted that these findings suggest plant-based nutritional interventions are promising for long-term cardiovascular and metabolic health improvements.
