Boston, UK: Sidewalk explosion and fire caused by underground electrical system

A sidewalk explosion and subsequent fire occurred on West Street in Boston, Lincolnshire, on August 20. Surveillance footage captured the moment a loud blast sent paving stones and debris into the air, just moments after two pedestrians had walked past the site. A utility cover was also displaced by the force of the blast.

Following the explosion, a large hole appeared in the pavement, and flames began to emerge from beneath the street. Despite the proximity to pedestrians and a passing vehicle, no injuries were reported.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue identified the incident as being related to an underground electrical system. Local authorities cordoned off the area to manage the scene, and the fire reportedly extinguished itself by the time emergency crews arrived.
