BOTAŞ implements tiered natural gas tariffs in Turkey

BOTAŞ has implemented a tiered natural gas pricing system for residential subscribers in Turkey, which applies different consumption limits based on province and month. Under this system, consumption within the first tier (Kademe-1) is charged at a lower rate, while exceeding the monthly limit triggers a higher rate (Kademe-2) for the entire month's total consumption, rather than just the excess amount.

For October, consumption limits vary significantly by region due to climate and meteorological conditions. For example, the limit in Ankara is 76.86 m³, while in Istanbul it is 43.73 m³, and in Antalya it is 16.94 m³. These limits are adjusted monthly to account for increasing heating needs during winter months. In Aydın, the limit rises from 16.75 m³ in October to 165.32 m³ in December.

Approximately 2.8 million households are expected to be affected by the higher tier. Special rates are provided for families of martyrs and veterans, who are charged 5.31 TL per cubic meter regardless of the tier limit. Final bills also include SCT, VAT, and distribution company usage fees.
