Botafogo transfer saga sees Danilo dispute and Danilo Pereira loan

Botafogo's midfielder Danilo is at the centre of a contractual dispute after the club rejected Palmeiras' bid. The club and the player's representatives argue over the release clause, citing two figures in the contract: €200 million versus €20 million, with Botafogo claiming a clerical error. Botafogo's SAF and president João Paulo Magalhães have firmly refused to sell, while Palmeiras president Leila Pereira said the club had made a "large financial effort" to acquire Danilo. The player posted on social media that he does not wish to move to Russia and expressed hope that Botafogo respects his decision. Interest from European clubs – Manchester United, Newcastle United, Zenit St. Petersburg and others – continues, and Botafogo reportedly seeks at least €30 million for any transfer.

In a separate move, Botafogo announced the season‑long loan of striker Danilo Pereira from Rangers (Scotland) with a conditional purchase option. The 27‑year‑old, a former Ajax, Feyenoord and Netherlands youth international, joins as the club’s sixth signing for the second half of the 2026 season. Pereira arrives after a spell at NEC Nijmegen and will replace Chris Ramos, who was loaned to Real Oviedo. The loan runs until June 2027.
