Brazilian football federation releases Copa FMF 2026 schedule ahead of new rule changes
The Mato Grosso Football Federation (FMF) announced the base table and regulations for the 2026 Copa FMF on 24 July. The competition returns after a two‑year hiatus, featuring nine clubs—only four from the state’s top division. Teams are split into two groups, with the tournament set to begin on 12 September and the final to be played as a single match at Arena Pantanal. All matches will be broadcast live on FMF TV.
Separately, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that new officiating rules adopted for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be applied to the Campeonato Brasileiro from the 23rd round. A meeting with clubs is scheduled for 10 August to finalize details. The changes expand VAR’s scope, tighten penalties for dissent, and aim to reduce time‑wasting, with immediate implementation in CONMEBOL competitions.
