Botafogo must cut a recent signing from its Copa Sudamericana roster

Brazilian club Botafogo signed six new players ahead of its round‑of‑16 ties against Cienciano in Peru, but the Copa Sudamericana permits only five registrations. Coach Franclim Carvalho must decide which newcomer will be omitted from the competition list. The players in contention are Warleson, Gabriel Batista, Lucas Monzón, Paulinho, Domingos Andrade and Danilo Pereira, while the two goalkeepers are expected to stay registered. If Botafogo progresses to the quarter‑finals, the squad can be reshuffled and a further defender could be added.

Commentator PC Vasconcellos warned Carvalho not to discard Argentine forward Joaquín Correa, who is currently out of the coach’s plans. Former player Juan Sebastián Verón, president of Estudiantes, confirmed his club’s interest in Correa and said negotiations are ongoing. Botafogo recently defeated Cruzeiro 1‑0, moving to eighth place in the Brazilian league with 29 points.
