Botafogo SAF faces R$ 3.5 billion debt during judicial recovery

The Botafogo Football Corporation (SAF) is navigating a new phase of judicial recovery while facing significant financial pressure. According to a judicial administration report based on July 2026 accounts, the entity carries a debt exceeding R$ 3.5 billion.

The breakdown of the liabilities includes approximately R$ 967 million for player acquisitions, R$ 715 million in loans, R$ 836 million in future transfers, R$ 482 million in taxes, and a recently recognized debt of roughly R$ 951 million to the social club.

In the first half of the year, the football department reported a deficit of approximately R$ 224.5 million, with expenses totaling R$ 412 million against revenues of R$ 187.5 million. Financial planning has been further impacted by the postponement of player sales to early 2027. To assist with the crisis, the GDA Luma group, linked to businessman Gabriel de Alba, injected approximately US$ 15 million into the club in July.
