Botafogo seeks 180-day extension of debt protection
The Botafogo SAF has requested a 180-day extension of its 'stay period' in court to continue its judicial recovery process. This legal protection, granted by the 2nd Business Court of Rio de Janeiro, aims to suspend debt collections, executions, and seizures of assets, providing the club more time to negotiate with creditors and reorganize its finances.
If approved, the protection could extend until April 16, 2027. The club is currently managing a significant financial crisis, with total liabilities exceeding R$ 2.5 billion, of which approximately R$ 1.286 billion is subject to the judicial recovery process. The extension is legally permissible provided the company has not caused unjustified delays in the proceedings.
