Botafogo signs Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech until 2028

Brazilian club Botafogo has officially signed Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech on a free transfer. The 33-year-old attacking midfielder has committed to the Rio de Janeiro-based club with a contract lasting until the end of 2028.

Ziyech arrives following the mutual termination of his contract with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, where he recorded nine goals and two assists in 16 matches. The former Ajax, Chelsea, and Galatasaray player, known for his role in Morocco’s historic 2022 World Cup semi-final run, will wear the number 22 jersey.

Upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Ziyech received a warm reception from supporters at Galeão International Airport. While he has successfully passed medical examinations, the club expects he will require approximately two weeks of physical conditioning and treatment for a recent injury before making his official debut in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
