Botanical art and garden restoration highlighted in Netherlands
Cultural and horticultural activities are being highlighted in the Netherlands through garden restoration and new exhibitions. At Kasteel Eerde, volunteers from Natuurmonumenten have worked to restore the historical flowerbeds. Following the 18th-century tradition of symmetry and geometric patterns, volunteers planted winter pansies in yellow, blue, and white to maintain the estate's stately appearance.
In Woerden, the Stadsmuseum has opened a new exhibition titled ‘BLOEI – In de ban van bloem en plant’. The exhibition explores the history of botanical art, ranging from 16th-century works like the Cruydt-Boeck to contemporary botanical drawings and paper flowers. The display features insights from experts regarding the craftsmanship required to accurately document plant life and will remain on view until April 2027.
