Botines Museum hosts Sorolla tribute concerts and catalog launch in León

The Botines Museum (Museo Casa Botines) in León organized a series of cultural events to mark the anniversary of painter Joaquín Sorolla’s death. On 4 August, pianist Marta Espinós performed a commented concert titled “Sorolla. Un imaginario musical,” pairing Sorolla’s luminous paintings with Spanish piano works by Albéniz, Granados, Falla, Turina, Mompou and Rodrigo. The program highlighted parallels between the painter’s impressionist style and musical impressionism and nationalism.

Two days later, on 6 August, the museum presented the first volume of the scholarly catalogue “Sorolla. Catálogo razonado de pinturas, 1876‑1894,” introduced by Sorolla’s great‑granddaughter Blanca Pons Sorolla, who has spent decades documenting the artist’s oeuvre. The catalogue, covering more than a thousand works from the early period of Sorolla’s career, is the first installment of a comprehensive chronological record. Both the concert and the catalogue presentation were free and open to the public.
