Botín family maintains influence through Santander and private holdings

The Botín family continues to manage a significant financial legacy through Banco Santander and private holdings. Emilio Botín, who led the transformation of Santander from a Spanish entity into a major European financial group, recently marked his 92nd birth anniversary. During his nearly 28-year presidency, he focused on growth, acquisitions, and internationalization.

Ana Botín, the current president of Banco Santander, has also seen significant movement in her private investment vehicle, Pérgamo Inversiones. The holding company doubled its net worth to 64.2 million euros in 2025, up from 33.9 million euros in 2024. This growth followed a capital increase of over 87.5 million euros approved in January via a non-monetary contribution of a credit right. Despite the increase in net worth, the firm reported a slight loss of 165,000 euros for the 2025 fiscal year.
