Botoșani County faces shortage of 32 family medicine physicians

Botoșani County is facing a chronic shortage of family medicine physicians, with 32 vacant positions currently available across the region. These vacancies affect both major municipalities and numerous rural communities, including Botoșani, Dorohoi, and several smaller localities such as Adășeni, Brăscăuți, and Vorniceni.

Despite significant monthly reimbursements from the Health Insurance House (CAS) to medical offices—sometimes exceeding 35,000 lei—the specialty remains unattractive to young graduates. Data indicates that these high gross figures represent the total budget for an entire medical practice, which must cover utilities, rent, medical software, consumables, and staff salaries, rather than being a direct net salary for a single doctor.

In response to staffing needs, the Botoșani County Ambulance Service has announced a recruitment competition for a specialist family medicine physician position. The selection process includes written and practical examinations scheduled for October 2026.
