Botoșani dentist detained for alleged 112,000 lei medical fraud
A 73-year-old dentist in Botoșani has been detained following allegations of a large-scale medical fraud scheme. According to the Economic Crime Investigation Service (SICE), the suspect allegedly reported over 1,000 fictitious dental services to the state between January 2020 and June 2024.
Investigators claim the dentist illegally obtained 112,000 lei from the state budget. These funds were specifically allocated to cover dental services for students.
During searches conducted at the suspect's residence and professional office, police seized electronic devices and various medical documents. The suspect has been held for 24 hours as investigations continue to determine the full extent of the fraud and efforts to recover the lost state funds.
